By Joe Piscopo, Retired Head Varsity High School Coach & College Assistant Coach, SUNY College, Buffalo, NY
These sideline out-of-bounds plays have been extremely successful for our teams over the years. They provide double-option 3-point plays which can be utilized in late-game situations.

DIAGRAM 1: Cross, Top And Corner Options (A). Set up a box formation. 2 screens across to 3 in the other low post. 3 comes around 2’s screen up the middle, getting screens from 4 and 5 at the high post. 1 passes to 3 on top of circle for a 3-point shot.

DIAGRAM 2: Cross, Top And Corner Options (B). 1, after passing to 3, goes down and screens for 2 in the low post. 2 uses the screen and pops into the corner behind the 3-point line.
If 3 doesn’t have a shot, 3 passes to 2 in the corner for a 3-point shot.

DIAGRAM 3: Foul-Line Play With 2 Options (A). Set up with 3, 4, 2 and 5 across the free-throw line. 3 and 4 turn in and screen for 2 looping around to the top of the circle. 5 goes down the lane. 1 passes to 2 for a 3-point shot.

DIAGRAM 4: Foul-Line Play With 2 Options (B). If 2 doesn’t have a shot, then 4 turns and screens for 3 who goes down toward the baseline. 5 also screens for 3 who pops out into the corner.
2 passes to 1 who passes to 3 in corner for a 3-point shot.

DIAGRAM 5: Corner-Top Play (A). Set up an I-formation stack. 2 backscreens 3’s defender. 5 also sets a screen for 3 who goes around both screens and pops into the corner. 1 passes to 3 for a 3-point shot.

DIAGRAM 6: Corner-Top Play (B). 3 has the ball and looks to take a 3 point shot. 4 screens down on 2’s defender and curls to the top into 3-point range. If 3 doesn’t shoot, he or she passes to 2 on top for a 3-pointer.
