Ventura Coach Convicted Of Stealing More Than $100K In College Funds

Associated Press

Ventura, Calif. (AP) --

A former Ventura College basketball coach charged with stealing more than $100,000 in college funds has been convicted on three of seven felony counts, including misappropriation of public money.

The Ventura County Star says jurors also decided Tuesday that Greg Winslow was guilty of failure to pay public money and grand theft. He was acquitted of identification theft, embezzlement, forgery and dissuading a witness.

The 46-year-old ex-coach was accused, among other things, of getting out-of-state basketball players to falsely register as California students, depriving the college of more than $40,000 in tuition.

Prosecutor Karen Wold says Winslow faces up to five years, four months in prison when he's sentenced May 20.
