Sue Donohoe, Credited With Growing Women's Game, Resigns From NCAA

Sue Donohoe, longtime NCAA administrator who has overseen the growth of the women's basketball for more than a decade, is resigning her position.

The resignation will be effective at the end of November, the NCAA announced Wednesday.

Its release said she is resigning her position -- vice president, championships and alliances of women's basketball -- for family and personal reasons. She has spent nearly 12 years overseeing the growth of the sport and the Division I Women's Basketball Championship.

"From the time I was a graduate assistant coach when the Lady Techsters of Louisiana Tech won the first-ever NCAA Women's Final Four in 1982 until this day, I have tried to give the best of who I am to this game, for which I have the utmost respect," Donohoe said. "I have experienced this championship as a coach and administrator and hope I have contributed to its growth in my role at the NCAA."

Prior to becoming vice president for women's basketball, Donohoe served as director for the Division I men's and women's basketball championships.

She joined the NCAA national office in 1999 after serving as associate commissioner at the Southland Conference.
