Fresno State Names Rodney Terry As Head Coach

FRESNO, Calif., April 8 (UPI) -- Rodney Terry, a longtime assistant coach at Texas, has been hired as the men's basketball coach at Fresno State.

Terry, 43, replaces Steve Cleveland, who was reassigned with the Bulldogs' athletic department after six seasons as coach.

Fresno State is coming off a 14-17 (6-10 in the Western Athletic Conference) season. The Bulldogs were 92-98 under Cleveland.

Terry was an assistant at Texas for the last nine seasons. He's also been on coaching staffs at North Carolina-Wilmington and Baylor.

"Over the course of his career, Rodney has clearly demonstrated a genuine commitment to institutional integrity and student-athlete welfare," Fresno State Athletic Director Thomas Boeh said.

"Along the way, he has also developed a national reputation as an excellent mentor, floor coach and recruiter. These attributes, along with his close ties to the recruiting base in the state of California, make him the perfect fit for Fresno State."
