Bill Russell To Sue NCAA

Former Boston Celtics center Bill Russell is suing the NCAA for using his likeness without paying him or seeking his consent, Bloomberg reported Thursday.

Russell's lawsuit was filed Wednesday in federal court in Oakland, Calif., according to the report.

The lawsuit claims the NCAA is in violation of federal antitrust laws because it keeps former student basketball and football athletes from receiving compensation for the commercial use of their images and likenesses, Bloomberg reported.

Electronic Arts Inc. is also named in the lawsuit as a defendant, the report said. Russell says the video game uses his image in "Tournament of Legends," a feature on an NCAA basketball video game.

Russell led the University of San Francisco to NCAA championships in 1955 and 1956.
