Beinborn, Once Named USA Today Volunteer Coach Of The Year, Dies In Traffic Accident
CUBA CITY - Cuba City in southwest Wisconsin is mourning the loss of its mayor and long-time sports coach. 59-year-old Bob Beinborn died on Monday at UW Hospital in Madison, from injuries he received in a traffic accident last Friday in Platteville.
He was Cuba City’s mayor since 2004. And he was also a basketball and softball coach for many years at Cuba City High School. USA Today named Beinborn its “Volunteer Coach-of-the-Year” for Wisconsin in 1998. And in ’04, he was inducted into the state Basketball Coaches’ Hall-of-Fame.
His sister, Cheryl Kern, said Beinborn was a great mentor – and he helped kids not only with sports, but with many other things in life. She said
Beinborn lost a leg in 1988 after complications from a cancer operation. And despite being confined to a wheel-chair, Cuba City Public Works Director Gary Droessler said he never heard Beinborn complain.
